Enhancing income of farmers through maize cultivation in Bihar

Maize cultivation provides livelihood to 1.3 million farmers of Bihar, most of whom are small and marginal farmers. S M Sehgal Foundation has worked with nearly 27,000 farmers since 2014 in selected villages of Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Sitamarhi, and East Champaran districts of Bihar, and trained them on good agricultural practices for maize and other crops. A decade of community broadcasting 

Community radio Alfaz-e-Mewat, an initiative of S M Sehgal Foundation, completed ten years of community broadcasting on Feb 28, 2022. The participative and collaborative journey that began in 2012 continues to grow with each passing day. E-Inauguration of transformed school 

E-Inauguration of the recently transformed Government Girls Middle School at Atta village of Nuh district Haryana on Feb 15, 2022. The school has been transformed in partnership with PEHEL Foundation (PNB Housing Finance Ltd.) The event was attended by Ms. Anjali Makhija, COO, Mr. Atish Raj, National Head-CSR-PNB and Ms. Sukriti Sethi, manager-CSR along with village sarpanch, SMC chairman, school principal, and staff. After the completion of the transformation work, the school has been upgraded from primary to middle by state government, and school enrollment increased by 55 percent. Watch video . . .

Water conservation project in Punjab completed 

S M Sehgal Foundation, with support from Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd., marked the completion of a water conservation project in Punjab by inaugurating a pond under Project Pragati II on Feb 11, 2022, at Chunni Kalan, district Fatehgarh Sahib. Plant head, Mr. Mrugesh Gandhi, CSR head, Ms. Aswini Deodeshmukh from Godrej, Ms. Anjali Makhija, COO, and Ms. Anjali Godyal, CDO, S M Sehgal Foundation, among others, attended the event. The transformed pond now has a water-holding capacity of 1.67 million liters, six solar lights and six benches around the pond, a ramp providing access to livestock into the pond, and fencing and pathways that make the site inviting.

Celebration of World Radio Day 2022 

S M Sehgal Foundation’s community radio Alfaz-e-Mewat launched a new series in collaboration with the Hidden Pockets Collective that focuses on reproductive and menstrual hygiene. The first interview-based episode was aired on our podcast channel. The community radio team was invited by the Centre for Research on Innovation and Science Policy (CRISP) to share a blog for AESA network focusing on this year's World Radio Day theme, “Radio & Trust.” Read blog . . .

Webinar Climate Change and Gender

S M Sehgal Foundation’s Rural Research and Development program organized a webinar on Climate Change and Gender on Feb 8, 2022. The webinar was attended by over 100 participants. The invited experts outlined various mitigation and adaptation strategies for gender mainstreaming in policies and practices. The discussion focused on understanding the impacts of climate change from a gender-responsive perspective that considers women’s roles, responsibilities, and capacities.

Completion of a course on HWTS 

The six-week online certificate course on Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage (HWTS), conducted by S M Sehgal Foundation in partnership with CAWST, Canada, and TERI School of Advanced Studies, was completed in Jan 2022. The course shared the fundamental concepts of HWTS through twelve online modules and four short learning segments. Thirty-one participants successfully completed the course.

Community Members Pursue Common Good

S M Sehgal Foundation with support from Rio Tinto India Pvt Ltd. initiated a pond rejuvenation activity at village Kherla, Gurugram district of Haryana. Better citizen engagement 

Awareness generation leads to better citizen engagement. Kamini Devi did not know much about the role of gram sabha, but she is now an active member of the body. She proudly owes this to the women’s leadership school implemented by S M Sehgal Foundation with support from Crossing Borders.
